Mara`s Italian Pastry in San Francisco

I walk by this store every day and was finally lured in by the delicious looking pastries. Had to shell out $11 for two pastries. What???!!!! I felt jacked! They are tasty but totally not worth it!!!!

A treasure! Small, quiet, a plave to relax from the bustle outside. Desserts are fantastic, service is quick, and they leave you alone.

Wonderful spot with friendly owners. Stopped in on the way to Berkeley and had a nice espresso and cannoli. Definitely worth it!

The rainbow cookies I got were stale. Otherwise, cute place.

Nice little shop. The pasteries were delicious. I got a canoli and my girlfriend got a raspberry ring. Both were fantastic.

Bought four pastries which came up to about $22 and all were very disappointing. The lady was nice, but the bake goods I chose were not at all good. The almond croissant was too heavy and dense and left a grainy, pasty taste in your mouth. The other three were also supposed to be flaky pastries, but were raw on the inside and not flaky at all. Just dense, sad calories. I should have known by looking at oddly white/grey looking pastries rather than a browned outer crust. I really want to support local businesses, but was unfortunate to find this was a waste of money - ended up tossing the pastries instead of bringing home to my wife.

Great food good coffee

I am born and raised in Italy. This place is not authentic. Flavours of pastries are mediocre. When asking about options the guy seemed bothered. Then the price. 18$ for two pastries and 2 coffees. And they didn’t even clean up the table.

Loved. Will come back to this authentic Italian goody shop :)

mara's owner is the sweetest man ever, he'll happily tell you about his pastries or recommend food. he's been insaley friendly and helpful every time i've visited him. his cannolis, crossaints, and almond cake are delicious. the cake was especially tasty as it was perfectly sweet and moist. the friendliness and quality at mara's makes it a staple of every visit to san francisco

Wow! The parties looked great in the window but it turns out that they were so so. The service was awful. There were 2 women in the shop & they didn't want to be bothered. They didn't afford to warm up our pastries & the hot coco sucks. The fancy coffees weren't any better. I know we were a big group but even then you think they appreciate the business. Well we will never come back. 🤨

unstable delivery of food and service. But almost all places in north beach got some personality. So I respect that...

The location is great and it's a small quaint place. However, I have to say the choices and taste does not live up to the hype. The pastries aren't bad but in my opinion average. The portion are large and the prices are reasonable considering the location - high tourist area.

We live in Italy 3 years and visited hundreds of cafe' bars like this. Mara's Italian Pastries is one of the few in the US that has the same vibe, service and flavors of those in Italy. I had a cafe' macchiatto and my wife and daughter had cappuccino. Very nice, the Lavazza beans they use give the authentic flavor. Served with a small glass of water, good touch. I love baba, they had it and it was awesome. My girls shared a flaky something or other that was very nice. We sat and talked with the owner and two gents about riding motorcycles in southern Italy. Mara's would be our go to place if we lived in San Francisco.

Not the best Cannoli. Cannoli not made fresh they are soft seem to be made long before $5 is way too much for tiny Cannoli.. I never order a Cannoli again in this place

The pastries are super! Customer service is quite terrible.

I stop at Mara’s every time I’m in the city. They have a good selection of pastries, but sometimes it isn’t the freshest. The service is fast though so if you’re in a hurry they’ll have you out in no time!

3.5 stars. Hard to resist this place when we walked by it. The spread of pastries next to the window looked delicious. We bought some home to try. The raspberry ring was dry when we took it out of the bag a couple of hours later but we put it in the toaster oven to warm it up and it was the kids' favorite purchase. The cannoli was good. The cream was not too sweet and the pastry was flaky. The chocolate croissant was too dry even after toasting in the oven.

A long time North Beach staple for coffee and Italian pastries

Love to pop in for a pastry from time to time. They're always fresh and everything is homemade which makes a this place one of my favorites and most comfortable environments to be in:)

So I have to say.. pastries looked great in the window but didn’t live to the expectations. The pastry seemed to be a bit old or just not good. I was surprised they had sfogliatelle but the cream inside was more like a custard with too much cornstarch. Pecan pie was ok but nothing special. The chocolate stick was horrible (I don’t even know where to start-it was dry, without flavor, really bad) and the cannoli seemed to be old. The only good thing about this was the chocolate mousse cake. Nothing amazing but it was the best of the bunch.Prices were a high for what it was and it seemed to be a bit of a tourist stop. Not recommended or going back.

Cookies by the pound, cannoli, everything you can think of. Delish!

I liked this place, but today pastery had mold at bottom. Macron's had off taste, while haselnut cake was ok. Not sure if bussiness is slow because off COVID , but not cool and dangerous. Not comming again.

Fresh focaccia and an amazing assortment of bakery goods. This is a very nice place to shop.

So we are walking by and decided to stop in. It's a small place with so many baked goods in the window. We were lucky and grabbed a table inside out of the cold. As we sat, we were able to people watch as they came and went. The line moved quickly. The coffee was fantastic as was the latte. And we ordered quite a few pastries to go which were so good. I would go back just for that. You gotta support the small businesses.

I thought the coffee was average at best and pastries and window display looks stale. Price looks high and service guy had an attitude . I prefer Stella for coffee.

It was a place I was looking forward to since I walk passed it all the time and the pastries look amazing. Unfortunately though they were not great. I got the mushroom focaccia bread and a crispy cheese tart and both were bleh. Very expensive too! 2 pastries was $12!

Seemed appetizing based on pictures, so me and my friends stopped by. We all grabbed the Cannolis and they were great! The cream was sweet but not overly sweet. It's served cool as well so it makes it taste that much better. The shell thingy-ma-bobber was also good. Seating is limited and the space is on the smaller end.

Mara's has been a pleasure... the service is always friendly and the pastries always delicious. It's a real genuine San Francisco experience. I will miss it.

Always stop in when in North Beach when traveling to my favorite city. And I'm never disappointed. Some of the best cannoli's and napoleon's around. A small joint with some curbside seating to people watch from while sipping a cappuccino and munching down delectable Italian baked goods.

$13 for two espressos and one pastry from a rude store clerk. The custard in the pastry was lumpy and grainy.

Rudest service in San Francisco. Tourists should be treated with kindness and respect. The man who worked at the counter should be fired. Very bad for your reputation.

Soy latte, chai latte and cannoli are a must before walking to Lombard St.

The canoli are great here but even better the macarons!!! you gotta try the lemon, raspberry and the chocolate macarons. Seriously delicious. it really blew me away because you don't expect great macarons from a little Italian shop! Not the friendliest service, just pay and leave basically. There's few seats inside and out, so you can sit down and eat your treats.

Mara's is such a cute little bakery, right off the road. Your mouth waters as soon as you pass the window and you have to go in. So delicious and wonderful service!

This place always has delish eats & never disappoints!! A little pricey, but always worth it!!
